A Stylist’s Guide to Hair Myths — Busted!

There’s a ton of hair advice floating around out there — some good, some… not so much. As stylists, we hear these myths all the time, and we’re here to set the record straight. So, grab your favorite hairbrush and get ready to separate fact from fiction!

💭 Myth #1: Trimming your hair makes it grow faster

The truth:
Hair grows from the roots, not the ends. Regular trims don’t make your hair grow faster, but they do help prevent split ends and breakage, which can make your hair look longer and healthier over time.

💡 Pro tip: Aim for a trim every 6–8 weeks to keep your ends fresh and damage-free.

💭 Myth #2: Washing your hair every day is a must

The truth:
Overwashing can strip your hair of natural oils, especially if you’re using harsh shampoos. How often you wash really depends on your hair type.

🧴 Fine hair? Every other day is usually fine.
Curly or coarse hair? 1–2 times a week may be plenty.

💭 Myth #3: Plucking one gray hair means more will grow back

The truth:
Nope — that’s a classic myth! Plucking a gray won’t multiply them. Each hair grows from its own follicle. That said, repeated plucking can irritate the follicle (and even damage it), so it’s better to let us help you manage grays the right way!

🎨 Ask us about glosses or soft blending for natural-looking coverage.

💭 Myth #4: You can repair split ends

The truth:
Sadly, no product can truly fix a split end. Once the hair shaft splits, the only real fix is a trim. Products can temporarily smooth them, but it’s like a band-aid, not a cure.

✂️ Come in for a quick dusting — your hair will thank you!

💭 Myth #5: Heat protectant isn’t necessary

The truth:
Always. Use. Heat. Protectant.
If you’re using hot tools (blow dryer, straightener, curling wand, etc.), a heat protectant is a must to avoid long-term damage. Think of it as sunscreen for your hair!

💭 Bonus Myth: Salon color is no different from box dye

The truth:
Big difference. Box dyes are “one size fits all,” while professional color is customized just for your hair type, tone, and history. That’s why the results — and the health of your hair — are usually way better with salon color.

🎨 Trust your color to a pro — your strands deserve it!
